Most genes on the X and Y chromosomes do not exist in diploid condition in males.  The X is much larger with about 1,000 genes.  The Y chromosome contains far fewer genes and only about one-fourth of the genes on the Y are also on the X.  Genes found on the X or Y are called sex-linked genes.  Those on the X are also called X-linked.
